Summer residents and renters may have been surprised to learn on the Today Show this week that frozen Lake Winipesaukee is a hot destination for some even during the coldest part of the year.
Runway “B-18,” spanning a 2,600-foot stretch of Alton Bay, is the only FAA-approved ice runway in the contiguous 48 states. Daring pilots have been taking advantage of this unique airstrip since 1979, many including it on their aviation “bucket list.”
