A little history about Prudential Spencer-Hughes
A Little History About Spencer-Hughes...

Spencer was our company dog for 10 years. He came to the office everyday and when the company was housed in Clark Plaza, Spencer made the trip to the Dunkin Donuts drive up window for his daily dose of donut holes. Clients loved to stop in and visit Spencer. Unfortunately he died in October of 2000 and is missed by all who knew him. Next came Graham (another beloved Golden) who had his own special qualities. We often felt part of Spencer was living on through Graham. He left us in June of 2008 to look after Spencer. He too will be missed. And while nothing could replace the loss of Spencer or Graham, Wilson(the new Golden Puppy) now 6 months old would be happy to make your aquaintance. Stop by and meet the new generation!
Company History:
Fall 1988: Bob Hughes decides to make a career change, or more accurately he and wife Jodi decide to make Wolfeboro home instead of Boston. As a result Hughes Oil Company www.hughesoil.com was sold to one of the partners/life long best friend of Don Hughes. Bob then starts real estate career with local agency in Wolfeboro and he and his dad Don (retired…..well sort of) start a small development and construction business that grows quickly during perhaps the worst real estate market ever. Don is primarily consultant and early financier.
Fall 1990: Bob and Jodi Hughes combine the growing and successful construction company and open the real estate office at 35 Center Street in Clarke Plaza. Doreen (Kuell) Blaisdell was the company's first employee. Thus began Spencer-Hughes Real Estate and Construction. The goal being the client only needs to make one phone call to have anything and everything handled for them. That aspect of the business continues today.
December 1993: Bob and Jodi purchased Wolfeboro Car Wash at Clarke Plaza. In 1998 a new "touchless" car wash was installed in the original automatic bay, allowing the operation to be open 24-hours, with or without an attendant. A second automatic bay was completed in June 2004 in hopes of reducing the length of time customers had to wait.
October 1996: We acquire perhaps our finest address www.SpencerHughes.com and it’s certainly the one visited most often. It is the first and only real estate web site in the Wolfeboro area for long time.
December 1996: The building at 22 South Main Street was ready for us and the Real Estate office was relocated. This had the single largest impact on the business to date. It helped attract more quality agents and we are now recognized as having the finest real estate office in the Lakes Region. For some reason people who eat ice cream buy real estate, often while still eating their cone. It’s no accident that we have “Bailey’s Bubble” ice cream stand attached to and part of our building. We can measure the amount of activity and exposure our listings get displayed behind the windows by the number of dollops of ice cream we find on the windows each morning.
September 1, 2000: The real estate company affiliates with Prudential Real Estate and changes its name to Prudential Spencer-Hughes. While the company was #1 in the marketplace at the time, it realized that the Internet was changing how business is conducted and that most people will choose their agent long before they ever come to the area. The Prudential network with its 96% name recognition in North America, strength of brand and network of over 1,700 offices made this the single most important tool Spencer-Hughes could provide to their clients.
April 2001: Prudential Spencer-Hughes expands and opens 2nd office in Alton Bay: Prudential Spencer-Hughes expands and opens a second office in Alton Bay upon the foundation of a wonderful real estate couple, John & Donna Tibbs. When their names surfaced in an office meeting one day, the whole room lit up with “these are the nicest people we’ve ever worked with.” As a result they were approached and soon after became an important part of our real estate family. Their contributions as professionals and more importantly as people, have been nothing short of incredible.
Spring 2002: Spencer-Hughes is a participating partner in the development of the final phase of Wolfeboro Common, a condominium association of single family homes, close to downtown Wolfeboro.
Spring 2005: Introducing Depot Square (www.depotsquare.com)! We are developing a community of new, high quality, high comfort condominiums in the heart of Wolfeboro with over 2,200 sq.ft., one floor living, elevator to units, Granite or Corian counters, two-car heated garages, wood floors, fireplace, high ceilings, etc. etc……… First units to be ready for occupancy early winter of 2006!
Spring 2005: Perhaps the single most important addition to our company came along as Alisa Randall joined our team as “The Operations Manager” as well as personal assistant to Bob Hughes. Alisa spent ten years as a paralegal, then over ten years as the Customer Operations Manager for Craig Benson’s incredibly successful “Cabletron”. She was then was hired away by Dean Kamen to run the operations at Segway. She was one of the people on “ABC’s Good Morning America” broadcast showcasing the new two wheeled transportation vehicle when it was unveiled to the world. She not only brings a wealth of experience in running sales organizations, but she also has dealt and worked directly with some of the most famous celebrities and sports figures, CEO’s and top executives, and even President & Mrs. George Bush (#41)!
As Bob Hughes stated, “she not only has the skills and abilities to manage the operation, but in an area like the Lakes Region of NH there are so many celebrities and executives who find their way here, and they want to not only be serviced well, but to maintain their privacy/anonymity as well. This is something Alisa excels at and everyone at Prudential Spencer-Hughes couldn’t be happier to have her aboard.
What’s next? As the Internet changes the way we do business each day, we take pride in our ability to adapt to the ever changing needs and desires of our market place. We realize that most come to the Lakes Region for the quality of life and we feel it’s our job to help our clients maximize their enjoyment while here, by providing the best services and information possible so our clients can simply leave the driving to us!
We live here because we love it here and we hope to help you do the same!
