New Hampshire Island Homes

The Lakes Region of New Hampshire comprises hundreds of distinctive lakes and ponds and each would seem to have their own unique characteristics. Lake Winnipesaukee alone is the host to over 300 islands and more than half of which have a dwelling in place. The largest islands, Long Island and Governor's Island are bridged to the mainland and are fully developed. The majority of Winnipesaukee islands are therefore accessible only by watercraft or after "ice in" by snowmobile.

What is the appeal for a second homes buyer for property that is typically used only 3 to 4 months a year? To me it is a balance of values and perhaps opposites. A refuge which allows an energizing of the spirit and sharpening of awareness. Things to be aware of when considering island life include but are by no means limited to; the availability and cost of insurance, mainland docking and parking arrangements, higher construction and remodeling costs, communication limitations, power and energy sources, septic and leach field terrain viability and more.
